The Most Popular Sports in the United States is Football!

American Football according to TV ratings is the most popular sport in the United States. Football in the U.S. is not the same sport we Americans call soccer. The National Football Legaue (NFL) airs most of its games on Sundays and most local fans make sure they set time aside after church to watch their local NFL team kick some serious butt!

American Football is played on a 100 yard field split into two with goal posts on each side. The object of this sport is to have a player score a touchdown in their endzone or complete a kick thru the goal post. A team scores 6 points for a touchdown and are then given the opportunity to kick a field goal for an extra point. When a team gains posession of the ball, they start in the first of 4 downs. If they get the ball up the field so many yards they can reset gameplay at the first down and keep posession of the ball until they either score a touch down, a field goal, or fail on their final fourth down.

The best American teams face off during division Playoff for the division title and finally 2 teams will fight it out once per season during the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is the highest viewed TV show every year it is on and many adverisers spend millions to get their ads in front of the millions of viewers who treat the Super Bowl as one of the most significant holidays of the year.
